Humbling Holiday Story
It is Christmas morning.
The scene is a rich family’s big house where a
little boy is starting to open his presents. Nothing
he finds is quite right. The sled is too small and
the toy train doesn’t have enough cars. The games
are not the right kind, and so it goes. Nothing
suits him.
Out in the back the stable boy wakes in the hayloft
of the barn and looks around, hoping to see a toy or
two. Seeing nothing, he scrambles down the ladder to
the stables below. The only things in sight are
piles of manure. |

Gleefully, the boy claps his hands and cries, “Wow! There must
be a pony here someplace!”
This story is used in “Adventures
in Attitudes” an empowering professional development
workshop which has inspired people throughout the world to make
positive choices in life…at work and at home.
I chose to share it with you this month to help keep a
perspective on the real joys of the holiday season. Life is full
of choices. You can get caught up in the presents instead of the
presence of your family and friends. You can see nothing but
problems or be inspired with opportunities. You can give excuses
or find reasons. You can take or you can give. You can complain
or you can share a compliment. You can say “No” or “Yes!” It is
in your perspective that you will find true happiness and
peace…in anything, anyone or anywhere!

town. May your
heart be humbled to appreciate the real gifts of the
holiday season - Faith, Hope and Love

- Congratulations
to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital (BJRH) for
receiving the prestigious 2006 Compass Award from
Press Ganey. This annual award recognizes health
care facilities whose overall satisfaction scores
have shown the greatest improvement over the past
two years relative to the other facilities in their
database. BJRH is a small community acute care
hospital in Dunn, NC and we have been working with
them in pursuit of Service Excellence for the past
12 months.
- After a two year
pursuit, Inspiring Solutions has just been
